WHAT TO DO IF A SYSTEM ERROR OCCURS DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Senate Regulations, Article 19, if there are students who have fulfilled their course requirements but encountered an error while applying through the e-enstitu.yildiz.edu.tr system, they should log in to e-enstitu.yildiz.edu.tr using their username and password and click on the link “e-Institute System Issues” They can have their cases reviewed by posting a message in the message category.
EXAM FORMAT
Doctoral qualifying written and oral exams will be held between the 9th and 12th weeks of the relevant semester, at the locations, times, and dates determined by the Department Chairs in-person and will be announced on the Department websites. Those who pass the written exam will take the oral exam on dates to be determined by the Departments. The dates, times, and other details regarding the Dwill announce the dates, times, and other details regarding the Doctoral Qualifying Exams.
YTÜ Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations—Senate Principles ARTICLE 31 stipulates that doctoral qualification processes shall be conducted as follows:
The qualification exam consists of two parts: a written exam and an oral exam.
Qualifying Written Exam: This is a single-stage exam covering the graduate-level courses defined for the program established within the department.
A score of at least 70/100 points on the proficiency written exam.
Students who do not pass the written proficiency exam cannot take the oral exam.
A score of at least 50/100 points must be earned.
To pass, the arithmetic mean of the written and oral proficiency exams must be at least 70/100 points.
Spring Semester 2025–2026 Students who passed the written portion of the doctoral qualifying exam but failed the oral exam can apply through the online system (e-enstitu.yildiz.edu.tr) provided they applyThis semester, students will only be required to take an oral exam.
WHO CAN APPLY
Students Enrolled Before Term 5: I have completed the course and Those who have completed the course load specified in Article 19 of the YTÜ Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations: Procedures and Principles Doctoral students enrolled in semesters prior to the 5th semester are also eligible to take the doctoral qualifying exam they can apply.
Students in Period 5: All doctoral students enrolled for the Fall 2024–2025 semester who have not previously applied for qualification will be in their 5th semester; therefore, in accordance with the Senate Regulations of the YTÜ Graduate Education and Teaching Regulations They are required to apply for doctoral qualification. For those who did not apply for the 2026–2027 Fall semester, applied but did not take the exam, or failed the exam, their first failures will be counted.
Students in Grade 6: Doctoral students enrolled for the Spring 2023–2024 semester who have not yet taken their qualifying exam have been deemed to have failed, as they have completed their fifth semester this term. Of these students, those who did not apply for the 2026–2027 Fall semester doctoral qualifying exams, those who applied but did not take the exam, or those who failed the exam must Their records will be deleted due to a second failure!!!
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
To apply for the doctoral qualifying exam, the course completion requirements listed below must be met.
For students admitted to the thesis-based master’s degree program: The program consists of at least 7 (seven) courses, a seminar, and courses in Research Methods and Scientific Ethics, totaling at least 21 (twenty-one) credits, consisting of at least 7 (seven) courses, a seminar course, and courses on Research Methods and Scientific Ethics.
For students admitted to doctoral programs with a bachelor’s degree (integrated program): The program consists of at least 14 (fourteen) courses, a seminar course, and courses on Research Methods and Scientific Ethics, provided that the total is no less than 42 (forty-two) credits.
For students admitted to a thesis-based master’s degree program: Of the 7 (seven) courses—excluding the “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” and “Seminar” courses, which must be taken within the first 4 semesters of graduate study—must consist of at least 4 (four) courses from the curriculum of the student’s department. For doctoral students admitted with a bachelor’s degree (integrated program), at least 8 (eight) of the 14 (fourteen) courses—excluding the “Research Methods andEthics and Seminar course—at least 8 (eight) of the 14 (fourteen) courses must be taken from the curriculum of the student’s department of study
A maximum of 3 (three) graduate-level courses offered in other departments or at other institutions of higher education, and a maximum of 6 (six) courses for doctoral students admitted through the (integrated)—may be counted toward the total course load the student is required to complete during their graduate studies.
Students who do not meet the above conditions must not apply for course completion and must complete their missing courses within the timeframe specified in the regulations. (The registrations of students who do not complete their missing courses within the timeframe specified in the regulations will be canceled.) Students who apply despite not meeting the relevant requirements will have their eligibility applications deemed invalid!
