History

The Institute of Social Sciences at Yıldız Technical University was established as part of the university’s long-standing educational tradition during the restructuring process of Yıldız Technical University, pursuant to Law No. 3837 dated July 3, 1992. The technical and academic expertise that forms the foundation of the university—dating back to 1911—has also paved the way for the development of graduate education in the social sciences over time.

The educational activities conducted within Yıldız Technical University were brought together under a separate and specialized academic umbrella in the field of social sciences with the establishment of the Institute of Social Sciences in 1992.

Since its establishment, the institute has offered master’s and doctoral programs in various fields of the social sciences, particularly in education, art, literature, economics, and business, and has made significant contributions to the advancement of scientific research, publications, and academic activities in our country. The Institute of Social Sciences, which is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of graduate education, also provides a structure that supports interdisciplinary work.

The Institute of Social Sciences, which began its operations in the Çukursaray Building at the Beşiktaş Main Campus, has continued its activities in the Taşkışla Building at the Davutpaşa Campus since 2017.

Our Institute continues to serve as a key center contributing to high-quality scientific output in the field of social sciences.
