When Does the Graduate School Accept Applications?

What are the ALES and Foreign Language Requirements for PhD and Master's Programs with Thesis?

You must have taken the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) and score at least 55 . (GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) exams are also substituted for ALES).

A minimum score of 50 from the foreign language exams administered by ÖSYM or at least 50 equivalent points from foreign language exams accepted as equivalent must be taken.

Minimum scores are established by the YTU Senate. These scores might be increased each semester by different departments, and various programs may have specific requirements. To get the most current information, refer to the "Programs" tab during application periods.

What Does In-Field (Alan İçi) and Out-of-Field (Alan Dışı) Quota Mean?

In-Field quota is for students who graduated from the same department, while Out-of-Field quota is for those with different diplomas.

Is There a Tuition Fee for Master's Programs with Thesis?

Master's students with thesis who are in the normal education period do not have to pay any tuition fee. The normal education period is 6 semesters for master's degree and 12 semesters for doctorate.

I have not yet graduated from college. Am I still eligible to apply?

You can apply online, but you must have graduated at the time of final registration

Can I apply by mail?

Postal applications will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted through the Online Application System (OBS).

What are the Documents Required for Registration to the Master's Program?

Diploma, Transcript, Ales Result Certificate and Foreign Language Certificate, Application Form and 2 photographs are required.

- Students who wish to enroll in courses offered in English are required to submit a document showing the English proficiency required for the graduate program.

- International students who wish to enroll in courses offered in Turkish are required to have a minimum C1 level TÖMER certificate from a State University or a C1 level Yunus Emre Institute Certificate.

Can someone else do my master's/doctorate university registration?

University registration must be completed in person or through a notarized power of attorney.

Are ALES Requirements Required for Non-Thesis Master's Programs?

ALES is not required for our non-thesis master's programs.

Is a Foreign Language Certificate Required for Non-Thesis Master's Programs?

There is no language certificate requirement for our non-thesis master's programs.

Is there a written-oral entrance exam for non-thesis master's programs?

There is no written or oral entrance exam for non-thesis master's programs.

What will be asked in the entrance exams?

You can contact the relevant department for the content of the entrance exams.

How long do I have to complete my courses?

Master's and PhD students must complete their courses within 4 semesters at the latest from the date of registration.

I have completed my courses, when do I have to take the PhD Prelim Exam?

Students who have completed their credits, have a weighted grade point average of at least 3.00 and have an assigned advisor can apply to take the prelim exam. Qualifying applications are received via obs.yildiz.edu.tr.

I passed the prelim exam successfully, what should I do next?

For the student who is successful in the prelim exam; a thesis monitoring committee is formed within one month at the latest with the recommendation of the advisor, the approval of the head of the main science department of the institute and the decision of the Institute Board of Directors.

When Does the Thesis Monitoring Committee Meet?

For the student whose thesis proposal is accepted, the thesis monitoring committee must meet twice a year between May-June and November-December. At least 3 (three) Thesis Monitoring Reports must be submitted for graduation.
