Academic Unit: Turkish and Social Sciences Education

Program Objectives: In parallel with political, economic and social developments, the interest and demand for learning Turkish as a foreign language has increased and teaching Turkish to foreigners has gained much importance in recent years. It is certain that programs in this field, such as this, are of great importance in terms of conducting scientific research and providing human resources that can meet this increasing demand. In this regard, the aims of the program offered at Yıldız Technical University are to meet the increasing demands on learning Turkish as a foreign language, to train the teaching staff who can work in this field and to conduct scientific research and provide the necessary knowledge on teaching Turkish to foreigners.

Graduation Requirements:

In order to graduate from the program, students are required;

• to take at least 7 courses (21 local credits/ 120 ECTS), two of which are required by the department
• to pass the “Seminar” and “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” courses,
• to pass all courses with at least CB grade and have at least 2.50/4.0 GPA,
• to comply with the publication requirement,
• to register to “Lecture on Specialized Field” and “MA Thesis” courses in order to write a thesis, after completing the required number of credits,
• to pass the MA thesis defense successfully.

Publication Requirement:

MA students are required to meet at least one of the following requirements which has to be related to their thesis and done in cooperation with their thesis supervisor(s):

1. An oral/ poster presentation at a national/ international refereed academic congress
2. An academic article published or accepted for publication at a national/ international refereed academic journal
